The FastShip concept is inherently more environmentally friendly than other forms of transport:

  • The FastShip vessel burns cleaner fuel than conventional ships (reducing sulphur dioxide (SOx)) and consumes less fuel and at lower altitude than aircraft (improving nitrogen oxide (NOx) impact).
  • The Rolls-Royce Trent gas turbine engines incorporate the latest low-NOx combustor technology.
  • FastShip's flow-through terminals allow for efficient ingress/egress from the terminal and smoother terminal processes—reducing truck wait times, emissions, and road congestion.
  • With its dedicated terminals in Philadelphia and Cherbourg, FastShip brings new capacity to otherwise overburdened and congested seaport and airport infrastructures in the U.S. and Europe.
  • Future development of intercoastal services aimed at getting domestic freight off of the roads would contribute to reduction of congestion on highways in the U.S. and Europe.
